Overview

The Loch Ness Explorer day tour is a fantastic tour to Loch Ness visiting a diverse range of classic Highland scenery including many must see sights and the chance to go monster hunting on Loch Ness! Other highlights include dramatic Glencoe, mighty Ben Nevis, the Great Glen and Highland Perthshire.

After leaving Edinburgh, you will head over to Stirling Castle, then drive through the Trossachs National Park, Rob Roy country. After, cross the wilds of Rannoch Moor before stopping at dramatic Glencoe, the scene of the infamous massacre in 1692. Your journey takes you through Fort William passing Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain, before entering the Great Glen.

Upon arrival in Fort Augustus, on the banks of Loch Ness, there is an optional cruise on the mysterious and beautiful Loch Ness. Providing you with an unforgettable experience and offering you the chance to catch a glimpse of Nessie. The boat uses the very latest hi-tech colour sonar and underwater imaging systems to enhance the hunt. You can also relax with a coffee or beer in the onboard bar. Cruise duration is approximately 1 hour.

Alternatively you could go for a walk or just relax by the Caledonian Canal in this charming Highland village.

The return journey takes you past shimmering Loch Laggan before climbing over the wild and lonely Drumochter Pass in the Cairngorms National Park. Heading south, enter Perthshire, a land of forests, rivers and mountains, where you stop in a wee village. The tour continues south over the Firth of Forth, where you can view the spectacular Forth Bridges before arriving back in Edinburgh.

Tour Start

You will be picked up 15 mins prior to departure time at Highland Explorer Offices. Bus departs at 8am.

Trossachs National Park, Glencoe and Ben Nevis

Heading north from Edinburgh, you will pass the imposing ramparts of Stirling Castle and drive through the Trossachs National Park, Rob Roy country. Fort Augustus, Picnic Lunch and optional Loch Ness Boat Cruise

Upon arrival in Fort Augustus, take your lunch on the boat or enjoy a picnic by the Calendonian Canal, or on the banks of Loch Ness. This charming Highland village is well-known for its famous locks; the Neptune staircase, offering a dramatic flight of eight locks.

What is included in the price?
The price covers your transport and guide, a picnic lunch is also included (Sandwich, water and a shortbread snack). Dietary requirements can be accommodated.
Are there any extra costs to be aware of?
There may be entry fees to enter some locations you visit. The Loch Ness boat cruise is extra from £14. This is payable at the location.
Are there bathrooms on board the bus?
No, but there will be bathroom stops during the tour.
Are children allowed?
No children under the age of 5 will be able to travel.
Where do we depart from?
You can find your bus at 60 High St on the Royal Mile, the Radisson Blu is a good landmark for the address.
Can I be picked up from my accommodation?
Unfortunately this will not be possible, please ensure you are at the departure location at least 15 minutes before the departure time.
Are the busses accessible?
They are, we ask that you let us know in advance so the driver knows of any assistance required.
Can you store my luggage whilst I am on tour?
Unfortunately no, however there is luggage storage available in Waverley Train Station.
