Overview

Visit Oban, Glencoe & West Highland Castles on this day tour from Glasgow.

Take a journey through Scotland and experience the West Highlands: shimmering lochs, scenic mountain views, and romantic and historic castles. Visit the fishing town of Oban, picturesque Inveraray and haunting Glencoe.

Outward Journey

Leaving Glasgow your Oban tour will head west, crossing the Firth of Clyde. Here you pass Dumbarton’s famous and imposing rock fortress with its equally impressive castle. Next, it’s Inveraray, a quaint town built in the mid-18th century on the shores of Loch Fyne.

You might like to visit Inveraray Castle*. The historic home of the Duke of Argyll, the chief of the Clan Campbell. Explore this impressive building, nestled in large beautiful gardens overlooking Loch Fyne. Alternatively, explore the town’s white-washed Georgian houses. With wide streets and breathtaking views across the loch.

The Oban tour will then climb further north into the Highlands. Through stunning scenery, and a route marked by several dramatic castles and beautiful lochs. Then, you will pass Kilchurn Castle, one of Scotland’s most photographed castles. You’ll find it on the banks of Loch Awe and beautifully framed by mountains.

The tour makes a stop for lunch in the picturesque harbour town of Oban, “Gateway to the Isles”. Here, take some time to explore its horseshoe bay and see McCaig’s Folly; an iconic 19th-century tower reminiscent of the Colosseum in Rome. After free time exploring, you will travel onwards past the 15th century Castle Stalker. Castle Stalker is set on a small island on Loch Laich. Next, experience Glencoe, one of Scotland’s most haunting glens and the site of the 1692 massacre of the MacDonald clan.

Return Journey

Your return journey takes you over the dramatic landscape of Rannoch Moor and the Black Mount. You will make a final stop at the pretty conservation village of Luss on the ‘Bonnie, Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond’. Here you can walk along the shore or admire the village.  Finally, we head home to Glasgow where your Oban, Glencoe & West Highland Castles tour will end.
