Please note this tour does not begin at the Castle, but instead meets by the statue of Adam Smith, on the Royal Mile (192 High Street) and your guide will lead the group to the castle as part of the tour.
The tour begins by the statue of Adam Smith on the Royal Mile. Your guide will then set the scene as you make the short journey up to Castle Hill. Learn of the significance of the Castle and about key figures who have helped shape it. At the entrance, you will get your skip-the-line passes and be whisked back in time as you enter the Castle.
Your expert guide will navigate the Castle complex with you, imparting their in-depth knowledge of all the main buildings and attractions: the Argyle Battery and One O’clock Gun, the Hospital Square and Western Panorama, the Castle dungeons and military prison, the Black Banquet, and Thomas Randolph’s daring castle raid, St Margret’s Chapel, Mons Meg, the Crown Square and The Honors of Scotland.
Please note, your guide will cover all the outdoor areas within the castle walls – that’s 3,000 years’ worth of castle history! They cannot take you into any of the Castle Museums but when the tour ends, you are free to explore the various castle buildings and museums at your own pace – with a wealth of knowledge and the scene perfectly set thanks to your passionate guide!
Please bring a copy of your confirmation email. Please note bags over 30l are not allowed in the Castle. Children aged 15 or under, will not be able to join the tour unless accompanied by a responsible adult.
