The city to coast cycle tour starts by cycling through the Victorian-era Innocent Tunnel built in 1860 and goes underneath Holyrood Park. We then enjoy a flowing downhill ride beside Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh’s extinct volcano and through Duddinston Village, passing Scotland’s oldest surviving pub of 1360. We then cycle onto the National Cycle Network 1 path to Portobello beach. There you will stop for refreshment outside if sunny or indoors if the Scottish weather is against you!
Your guide, Leanne, is an experienced PE teacher of over 20 years, with the last 12 years teaching internationally. She is a qualified Cycle ride leader, Play together on Pedals leader and has up to date Outdoor First Aid and Child Protection certifications. Leanne is also a British Cycling Mountain Bike Leader (Level 2) and has the Velotech Gold certificate. This certificate is a recognised qualification by the Bicycle Association of Great Britain as one of the leading standards in professional bike mechanics.
She currently volunteers as a ‘Breeze Champion’ for British Cycling, leading women’s only leisure rides. A wee Pedal’s pay it back scheme, takes place at Bridgend Farm where Leanne leads free monthly family rides. She also funds Under 5’s balance bike classes to help local families enjoy a cycle ride together. The class was so successful it shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year 2020 Awards’ and ‘Best business start-up 2020’.
